- One of the most interesting projects on the Internet is SETI@home. An example of distributed computing, it's a screensaver that runs on practically any platform and crunches numbers from radio telescopes to search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Will we find anything? Who knows--but at least it's more useful than most other screen savers out there!
